Abstract: Describes aims and objectives of Alaska Ocean Observing Sytem, systematically delivering real-time information and long-term trends about Alaska's ocean conditions and marine life. Also discusses challenges of designing and operating ocean observing system (remoteness of region, long distances, lack of nearby infrastructure) and integration with other observing systems, with possible ultimate contribution to Global Earth Observing System of Systems.
