Abstract: | Studies formation of clan communities which was closely allied to problems of land ownership and self-determination in economic and political spheres. Outlines Sakha Republic's nationalities policy and examines legislation passed in 1992-99. Describes case of Maltan, reindeer-herding clan community, as example of misunderstanding between authorities and clan communities. Describes social and ethnic structure of clan communities and considers problems of land ownership and land use especially for reindeer herders. |
