Abstract: Observes pattern of ¹⁸O/¹⁶O depletion of quartz with increasing metamorphic grade in both rock matrix and associated veins, from transect along Tana Glacier. Suggests that pattern of depletion is unlikely to be result of single, geometrically simple fluid flow system operating at scale of exposed metamorphic section and at peak of metamorphism. Finds that lowering of δ¹⁸O in intermediate- to high-grade rocks of Chugach metamorphic was caused by fluid infiltration prior to thermal peak of metamorphism, and that detailed structural, thermal, and oxygen isotope record indicates responsibility of magmatic heating for high-temperature, low-pressure, Buchan metamorphism.
