Nitrogen fixation in the High Arctic: role of vegetation and environmental conditions / Matthias Zielke, Bjørn Solheim, Sigmund Spjelkavik, Rolf A. Olsen.

Title: Nitrogen fixation in the High Arctic: role of vegetation and environmental conditions / Matthias Zielke, Bjørn Solheim, Sigmund Spjelkavik, Rolf A. Olsen.
Author(s): Zielke, Matthias.
Solheim, Bjørn.
Spjelkavik, Sigmund.
Olsen, Rolf A.
Date: 2005.
In: Arctic, Antarctic, and Alpine Research. (2005.), Vol. 37(3) (2005)
Abstract: Studies course of nitrogen fixation by moss-associated cyanobacteria in Svalbard using acetylene reduction assay. Finds that, depending on type of vegetation, nitrogen fixation becomes limited when water status falls below minimum threshold level, confirming, in Arctic regions with low precipitation during growing season, nitrogen fixation to be mostly limited either to snowmelt period or to habitats remaining wet during summer.
