Title: | AMLR 2004/2005 field season report. Objectives, accomplishments and tentative conclusions / Jessica D. Lipsky, ed. |
Author(s): | Lipsky, Jessica D., |
Date: | 2005. |

Abstract: | Reports initial results of field research in South Shetland Islands into relationships between krill, their predators, and key environmental variables. Includes surveys of krill and oceanographic conditions in vicinity of South Shetland Islands; acoustic instrumentation; deployment of drifter buoys and acoustically instrumented buoys in vicinity of Cape Shirreff; inshore survey of krill and oceanographic conditions near Cape Shirreff; underway observations of seabirds and sea mammals; observations of chinstrap, gentoo and Adélie penguin breeding colony sizes, breeding chronology and success, fledging weights, diet composition, foraging locations and depths; instrumentation of adult penguins to determine winter-time migration routes and foraging areas; fatty acid signatures of fur seal milk; collection of fur seal teeth for age determination and other demographic studies; observations of fur seal pup production and pup growth rates, adult female attendance behaviour, diet composition, foraging locations and depths, and metabolic rates; tagging of penguin chicks and fur seal pups for demographic studies; and establishment of weather station for continuous recording of meteorological data. |
