Record #175608:

Determining prey distribution patterns from stomach-contents of satellite-tracked high-predators of the Southern Ocean / J.C. Xavier, G.A. Tarling, J.P. Croxall.

Title: Determining prey distribution patterns from stomach-contents of satellite-tracked high-predators of the Southern Ocean / J.C. Xavier, G.A. Tarling, J.P. Croxall.
Author(s): Xavier, J. C.

Date: 2006.
In: Ecography. (2006.), Vol. 29 (2006)
Abstract: Examines potential for using combination of satellite tracking and stomach content analysis to construct distributional maps of prey species, particularly those sampled poorly by conventional means. Probabilistic model was applied to tracking and diet data collected from 38 wandering albatrosses from colony at Bird Island, South Georgia during winters of 1999 and 2000, when birds foraged in up to three different water-masses. Describes robustness/sensitivity analyses used to test model assumptions of time spent foraging and relative catch efficiencies, and to evaluate potential biases associated with model; discusses limitation to using this type of data; and proposes possible solutions.
