Record #175324:

Timescapes of community resilience and vulnerability in the Circumpolar North / Martin Robards, Lilian Alessa.

Title: Timescapes of community resilience and vulnerability in the Circumpolar North / Martin Robards, Lilian Alessa.
Author(s): Robards, Martin.
Alessa, Lilian.
Date: 2004.
In: Arctic. (2004.), Vol. 57(4) (2004)
Abstract: Investigates social-ecological timescapes of Circumpolar North in relation to four primary provisioning practices (hunting/gathering, pastoralism, agriculture and market-based economy). Identifies distinct social-ecological states, interspersed with periods of change. Proposes that communities, to maintain existence, have had to maintain ability to recognise gradual or rapid changes in social, ecological, or economic conditions and reorganise themselves to adapt to changes, rather than specific outcomes of changes.
