Abstract: Discusses conversion of seasonal changes in photoperiod, temperature and availability of food to hormonal signals in order to induce adaptations in physiology of reindeer; in particular, melatonin and regulation of reproduction, growth of pelage, thermogenesis, body mass and immune function, and thyroid hormones (insulin and leptin) and effects on appetite, energy production and thermogenesis.
