SAGE. SOLAS Air-Sea Gas Exchange Experiment, March-April 2004 / New Zealand. National Institute of Water and Atmospheric Research.
Title: | SAGE. SOLAS Air-Sea Gas Exchange Experiment, March-April 2004 / New Zealand. National Institute of Water and Atmospheric Research. |
Author (corporate): | New Zealand. |
Date: | [2004] |
Publisher: | Wellington: National Institute of Water and Atmospheric Research |
Abstract: | Log of RV Tangaroa for March-April 2004 voyage to Pacific sector of Southern Ocean, as part of international research programme studying exchange of gases important to climate. 50 square kilometres of ocean were fertilized with iron sulphate to stimulate plankton growth and enhance gas flux. Study includes role of plankton in driving biological pumping of CO₂ through photosynthesis, and in emitting dimethyl sulphide which potentially affects properties of aerosols governing extent and reflectivity of marine cloud cover. |
