Record #174565:

Permafrost der Schweizer Alpen 2002/2003 und 2003/2004 / PERMOS-Autorenteam.

Title: Permafrost der Schweizer Alpen 2002/2003 und 2003/2004 / PERMOS-Autorenteam.
Translated title: Permafrost of the Swiss Alps 2002/2003 and 2003/2004.
Author (corporate): PERMOS-Autorenteam.
Date: 2005.
Language: German.
In: Alpen : Zeitschrift des Schweizer Alpen-Clubs. (2005.), Vol. 10 (2005)
Abstract: Presents permafrost observations coordinated by PERMOS (Permafrost Monitoring Switzerland). Reports period saw permafrost temperatures higher and summer thawing deeper than average, resulting in many landslides, particularly during hot summer of 2003 when active layer attained record thickness. Describes winter snow conditions, summer temperatures and influence of meteorological conditions on permafrost. Illustrates fieldwork, rock glaciers, landslides, etc. Presents peak thawing depths at Múrtel-Corvatsch rock glacier since 1984 and Shilthorn since 1998, temperature-depth profiles through up to 100 m of permafrost and rock at 11 sites and temperature time series at around 10-m depth since 1997 for 5 sites (since 1987 at Múrtel). Annexe briefly describes electrical resistivity investigation of permafrost changes.
