Record #174564:

Glaciers and the changing Earth system: a 2004 snapshot / Mark B. Dyurgerov, Mark F. Meier.

Title: Glaciers and the changing Earth system: a 2004 snapshot / Mark B. Dyurgerov, Mark F. Meier.
Author(s): Dyurgerov, Mark B.
Meier, Mark F.
Date: 2005.
In: Institute of Arctic and Alpine Research. Occasional Paper. (2005.), Vol. 58 (2005)
Abstract: Presents current state of "small" glaciers and discusses their role in global processes. Covers all perennial ice masses other than Greenland and Antarctic ice sheets (including glaciers peripheral to, but independent of, these). Estimates total area and volume. Summarizes effects of climate warming on mass balance, and of wastage on sea-level (+0.93 mm/yr over 1994-2003). Discusses global mass balance compilation. Assesses: impacts on sea level and Earth's gravitational field; glaciers as indicators of climate change; hydrological impacts on oceans and high mountain regions; environmental effects of iceberg calving and ice recession; glacier hazards. Appendices contain: areas of mountain and subpolar glaciers; annual mass balance time series for over 300 glaciers; mass balances over glacier systems, regions, etc.
