Record #174553:

Development of an artificial snow crystal production system using a convection chamber with a Peltier device / Akio Murai.

Title: Development of an artificial snow crystal production system using a convection chamber with a Peltier device / Akio Murai.
Author(s): Murai, Akio.
Date: 2005.
Language: Japanese.
In: Seppyo : Journal of the Japanese Society of Snow and Ice. (2005.), Vol. 67(4) (2005)
Abstract: Describes artificial snow crystallizing system based on Peltier effect. Combination of multiplexed Peltier device with water cooling system and foam polystyrene to insulate casing allows air temperature control to -30°C. Temperature and vapour conditions are easily varied. Device is easy to manufacture, small and portable and outperforms traditional convection or diffusion systems because it requires no special low-temperature laboratory or complex equipment to cool air with refrigerants. Paper presents device's basic principles, mechanisms and design, along with pictures of snow crystals produced (dendritic, needle, column and plate with dendritic extensions)
