Abstract: Reviews investigations of three moraine-dammed glacial lakes, Tsho Rolpa and Imja in Nepal and Lugge in Bhutan. Presents photographs, bathymetric maps, wind roses, profiles and sections of water temperature, suspended sediment concentration and density residue. Constructs conceptual model of hydrodynamics of Tsho Rolpha lake and calving at glacier front and 3-D numerical simulation of airflow above lake surface. Discusses effects of wind on lakes and screening by topography and moraine. Attributes rapid expansion of Tsho Rolpa basin to advective diffusion of heat by wind-driven water circulation coupled with sediment-laden underflows.
