| Abstract: | Uses geomorphological study of Miage morainic amphitheatre (MMA) and Combal paleolake to reconstruct main fluctuations of Glacier du Miage during second half of Holocene, when increased debris cover at glacier surface during cold stages led to present expansion in trunk valley. Presents radiocarbon dates from samples recovered by digging, coring and drilling at MMA and Combal paleolake, complementary dendrochronological and lichenometric dates from inner MMA and cross sections of southern MMA and Combal paleolake based on core and geophysical data. Proposes reconstruction in which MMA formed in four advances from early Neoglacial (4.8-4.6 cal. ka BP) to Little Ice Age. |
