Describes and illustrates icebreaking operations and ships, traffic restrictions, etc. Presents RADARSAT image of Sea of Bothnia at maximum ice extent and distribution map of ice types. Compares with maxima in years since 1986/87. Presents records of maximum ice extent in Baltic, Kattegatt, Skagerack during 1900-2005 and correlates severity of ice with air temperature. |
