Record #174540:

Climate seesaw / David Sugden.

Title: Climate seesaw / David Sugden.
Author(s): Sugden, David.
Date: 2005.
In: Planet Earth. (2005.), Autumn (2005)
Abstract: Brief account of research examining relationship between climate changes in northern and southern hemispheres at end of last ice age. Based on mapping and dating former glacier limits in Patagonia, South America, work supports idea of "bipolar oceanic seesaw", in which changes in thermohaline circulation and strength of Gulf Stream drive climate changes. Notes other evidence for matches and mismatches between southern and northern changes during transition. Speculates on whether seesaw might resume, driven by Arctic melt water and changing winds and ocean currents around Antarctica as world's climate moves out of settled period.
