Change in the timberline ecotone in northern Finnish Lapland during the last thirty years / Friedrich-Karl Holtmeier.

Title: Change in the timberline ecotone in northern Finnish Lapland during the last thirty years / Friedrich-Karl Holtmeier.
Author(s): Holtmeier, Friedrich-Karl.
Date: 2005.
In: Kevo Subarctic Research Station. Reports. (2005.), Vol. 23 (2005)
Abstract: Describes changes in timberline ecotone in northern Utsjoki and Pallastunturi, Finnish Lapland, comparing field notes of study area from 30 years ago to present. Young growth of pine and spruce invaded forest-tundra ecotone and advanced beyond former treeline under favourable conditions between 1920s and 1940s, died back in following decades due to climatic and biotic factors, but provided seed source for regeneration and potential timberline advance under global warming.
