Деградация оледенения гор Южной Джунгарии во второй половине XX века

Abstract: Discusses spatial-temporal glacier changes in South Dzhungaria, south-eastern Kazakhstan, based on morphometric data from air photo surveys of 1956 and 1990. Over intervening period, some 200 of 440 glaciers disappeared and total glaciated area decreased by 40%. Mean rate of area loss was greater in second half of period (3.5 km²/yr) than in first (2.05 km²/yr). Glaciers became on average 0.42 km shorter, and termini 93 m higher. Glacier volume decreased by 40%, with a 34-year average mass balance of -42 g/cm²/yr. In 2003 glaciated area was about 100 km². Forecast based on extrapolating current trends suggests South Dzhungaria glaciers could disappear in 40 years.
