| Abstract: | Presents investigation of Gregoriev ice cap, including derivation of ice velocities from 2-d mathematical model including symmetric transverse ice convergence. Chooses tuning parameter depending on ice cap (fluid tube) geometry using well-known quasi-steady surface location and measurements of surface velocity near ice front. Investigates influences of different boundary condition approximations on calculated ice velocity and calculates longitudinal and shear stress distribution. Models reconstruction and evolution of glacier surface from 1980-2050 based on mass balance measurements from 1987 and 1988 (assumed to apply over entire reconstructed period). Uses surface changes obtained to examine ice cap degradation near ice front. |
