Abstract: Investigates sea ice drift and deformation using data obtained near ice resistant platform Molikpaq in spring 2003. Ice drift time series were obtained for several points around 6 nautical miles platform using radar. Tidal and wind-induced components were analysed separately and differences between shallow and deep water areas used to estimate ice cover deformation parameters. Reports semi-diurnal tides significantly influence deformation, despite their minor role in tidal currents. Identifies "effective" and "ineffective" wind directions for ice drift. Concludes forecasts of ice drift velocity and ice cover deformations can be used for ship operation support.
