Record #174451:

Criteria of winters severity of northern Sakhalin / A. Polomoshnov, G. Surkov.

Title: Criteria of winters severity of northern Sakhalin / A. Polomoshnov, G. Surkov.
Author(s): Polomoshnov, A.
Surkov, G.
Date: 2005.
Publisher: Mombetsu: Okhotsk Sea & Cold Ocean Research Association
In: Proceedings of the 20th International Symposium on Okhotsk Sea and Sea Ice, Mombetsu, Hokkaido, Japan, 20-25 February 2005. (2005.),
Abstract: Presents correlation analysis of historical climate data from three stations, De-Kastry, Pogibi and Val, showing long-term variations are similar. On basis that hydrological and sea ice growth processes are also similar for each region, uses Zubov's formula to hindcast ice thickness. Obtains probable maximum ice thicknesses for return periods of 1, 5 and 25 years in three regions of Chaivo Bay, Nevelskoy Strait and Chikhachev Bay. Using data from meteorological station (Gizhiga) with maximum total degree-days of frost, calculates maximum ice thickness in Okhotsk Sea to be 160 cm.
