Gu, Wei.
Shi, Peijun.
Xie, Feng.
Date: 2005.
Publisher: Mombetsu: Okhotsk Sea & Cold Ocean Research Association
In: Proceedings of the 20th International Symposium on Okhotsk Sea and Sea Ice, Mombetsu, Hokkaido, Japan, 20-25 February 2005. (2005.),
Abstract: Analyzes sea ice area in Bohai Sea and its spatial and temporal changes during January 2000. Study is motivated by interest in low salinity sea ice as source of fresh water in China. Describes simple methodology to extract sea ice boundary from NOAA/AVHRR data, based on reflectance of seawater, sea ice and land in winter. Discusses choice of thresholds and influence on reflectance of suspended sediment in seawater. Uses individual thresholds in three sub-areas of different suspension content. Discusses results, noting centre of sea ice area moved from centre of sea to eastern coast over ice period, and identifies best site for sea ice utility.
