Date: 2005.
Publisher: Mombetsu: Okhotsk Sea & Cold Ocean Research Association
In: Proceedings of the 20th International Symposium on Okhotsk Sea and Sea Ice, Mombetsu, Hokkaido, Japan, 20-25 February 2005. (2005.),
Abstract: Presents results of electro-magnetic (EM) inductive sounding of sea ice thickness and drill-hole observations on ice floes carried out in February 2004. Summarizes ice core data and proposes new model for idealizing internal structure of sea ice as multi-layered, one-dimensional structure. Model consists of sea ice with relatively high conductivity and sea water- or slush-filled gaps in thickness range of deformed ice. Develops algorithm for transforming apparent conductivity, the output of EM inductive sensor, into thickness of both undeformed and deformed ice. Presents example ice-plus-snow thickness distribution obtained and compares its PDF to that obtained by video method.
