Record #174411:

Calanoid copepod resting eggs - a safeguard against adverse environmental conditions in the German Bight and the Kara Sea / Marcus Engel.

Title: Calanoid copepod resting eggs - a safeguard against adverse environmental conditions in the German Bight and the Kara Sea / Marcus Engel.
Author(s): Engel, Marcus.
Date: 2005.
In: Berichte zur Polar- und Meeresforschung = Reports on Polar and Marine Research. (2005.), Vol. 508 (2005)
Abstract: Focuses on two regions for which resting eggs of calanoid copepods have not previously been reported. In German Bight analyses species composition and abundance of viable eggs in seabed by means of hatching experiments and identifies stimuli that induce termination of dormancy and studies seasonal variability of nauplii emergence. In Kara Sea examines spatial distribution of calanoid copepod nauplii in sea bottom sediments. Compares results for Kara Sea and German Bight and finds that in latter at least three species produce resting eggs whereas there is almost complete lack of nauplii in former. Concludes that in Kara Sea calanoid copepods exhibit different adaptation to environmental variability.
