Jølle, Harald Dag,
Date: 2004.
Publisher: Oslo: Gyldendal Norsk Forlag
Language: Norwegian.
Abstract: Describes intensive Norwegian activity in both polar regions, with exciting expeditions, scientific research, rations and political significance, from end of 17th Century onwards. Norwegian activities predominate, but in international context. Includes famous expeditions of Nansen, Amundsen and Otto Sverdrup. Shows how heroic expeditions shaped broad interest in polar regions and became important elements in Norwegian self-image at time of Independence. Later expeditions by daring flyers and in airships in 1920s and 1930s are included, followed by modern, more sporting but still fascinating ski journeys.
