Record #174004:

Marine geophysical investigations of the Polar North Atlantic: sea-floor scouring at the mouth of Hudson Strait by deep-keeled icebergs / Joannah Metz.

Title: Marine geophysical investigations of the Polar North Atlantic: sea-floor scouring at the mouth of Hudson Strait by deep-keeled icebergs / Joannah Metz.
Author(s): Metz, Joannah.
Date: 2005.
Abstract: Studies iceberg scours observed in side-scan sonar images of bed of Hatton Basin near mouth of Hudson Strait. Reviews impact of iceberg related processes on sedimentary record, relevant climate oscillations and ice sheet dynamics. Discusses origin of iceberg scours and relationship to glacial history of Hudson Bay and Labrador Sea areas. From sonar images, scour statistics, and iceberg statistics inferred, suggests: enormous scours in paleo-water depths over 500 m were formed by icebergs from outlet glacier of Laurentide Ice Sheet; most scours are relict, probably carved during last Heinrich Event about 11 kyr BP; calving margin of Hudson Strait ice stream did not extend into Hatton Basin.
Notes:

Dissertation submitted for degree of Master of Philosophy in Polar Studies, University of Cambridge.
