Abstract: Examines growth and development of tourist industry in Haines, and effect on community life and land use. Also describes development of cruise-based tourism and relation to shifts in local social and economic structures and patterns of land use, especially local recreation trends. Results indicate that tourism brings both positive and negative changes to Alaska communities.
