Abstract: | Focuses on economic trends since 1970s in rural south-east Alaska. Compares trends with those in Nation and in non-metropolitan areas of country to determine extent to which economy in rural south-east Alaska is affected by regional activity and by larger market forces. Notes decline in manufacturing sector, as reflecting broad-scale changes in U.S. economy; also growth in non-wage income, trend greater in rural south-east Alaska than elsewhere. |
