Record #173882:

A statistical method for estimating the level of IUU fishing: application to CCAMLR subarea 48.3 / D.J. Agnew, G.P. Kirkwood.

Title: A statistical method for estimating the level of IUU fishing: application to CCAMLR subarea 48.3 / D.J. Agnew, G.P. Kirkwood.
Author(s): Agnew, D. J.
Kirkwood, G. P.
Date: 2005.
In: CCAMLR Science. (2005.), Vol. 12 (2005)
Abstract: Describes new method for estimating illegal, unregulated and unreported (IUU) catches of fish and by-catch of birds, based on data from fisheries protection vessels (FPV) for 1998-2004. From 1998-2001 estimated mean toothfish catches attributable to IUU fishing in waters around South Georgia totalled 1,994 tonnes, and estimated total bird catch was 4,000. Despite continuing high levels of FPV coverage from 2001-04, no further IUU activity was detected in subarea 48.3.
