Title: Science and implementation plan for a SCAR research programme ICESTAR: Interhemispheric Conjugacy Effects in Solar Terrestrial and Aeronomy Research / Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research (SCAR). Standing Scientific Group on Physical Sciences, Allan Weatherwax, Kirsti Kauristie, and nine others.
Author(s): Weatherwax, Allan.
Kauristie, Kirsti.
Author (corporate): Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research (SCAR).
Date: 2005.
In: SCAR Report. (2005.), Vol. 24 (2005)
Abstract: Outlines proposals for international coordination of interhemispheric research in areas of solar terrestrial physics and polar aeronomy. Four main working groups will focus on quantifying and understanding similarities and differences between northern and southern polar upper atmospheres under varying influence of solar electromagnetic radiation and of solar wind; quantifying effects on polar ionosphere and atmosphere of magnetospheric electromagnetic fields and plasma populations, from radiation belts to tail plasma; quantifying atmospheric consequences of global electric circuit and further understanding electric circuit in middle atmosphere as guided by electric fields generated at solar wind-magnetosphere interface; and creating data portal to integrate all polar data sets and modelling results.
