Abstract: Demonstrates concept and some practical examples of ionospheric total electron content (TEC) modelling using undifferenced phase-smoothed pseudo-range GPS observations. After smoothing process, pseudo-range observations are in fact equivalent to carrier phase observations, where integer ambiguities might be biased. Resulting TEC estimates were tested against International GPS Service (IGS) TEC data for some American, European and Antarctic stations. Point-measurements of TEC were interpolated using Kriging technique to create TEC maps, and quality of ionosphere representation was tested by comparison to reference IGS global ionosphere maps. TEC-recovery methodology is efficient, and with application of Kriging method enables generation of real-time regional TEC maps. As differential code biases (DCBs) for satellites do not change significantly during day, their values can be used even a few days after calibration, which may allow production of instantaneous TEC maps in near-real time.
