Abstract: Examines development of fluctuations in total electron content (TEC) in high-latitude ionosphere based on GPS observations in Antarctica during geomagnetic storms of March 2001. Maximum TEC variation was 10-40 times, with significant variations observed along individual satellite passes related to polar patches with speeds greater than 700 m s-1. At lower Antarctic latitudes fluctuation of GPS signals were attributed to small and middle-scale irregularities, and intensity of phase fluctuations was dependent on geomagnetic activity. Discusses increased errors in determining phase ambiguities of GPS observations in Antarctic regions during geomagnetic storms were at polar stations,.
