Title: The evolution of the GIANT program / John Manning.
Author(s): Manning, John.
Date: 2005.
In: SCAR Report. (2005.), Vol. 23 (2005)
Abstract: Describes work of Geodetic Infrastructure of Antarctica (GIANT) programme established by SCAR in 1992 to provide common geodetic framework over Antarctica as basis for recording of positional related science. Discusses development and status of each of nine sub-elements within GIANT program, including permanent geoscientific observatories; epoch crustal movement campaigns; physical geodesy; geodetic control database; tide gauge data; atmospheric impact on GPS observations in Antarctica; remote observatory technologies; ground truthing for satellite missions; and geodetic advice on positioning limits of special areas in Antarctica.
