Translated title: | The place of Danish-speaking Greenlanders in Greenland during times of "Greenlandisation" and modernisation: a discursive analysis of the Greenlandic language debate - studies in the negotiation of political identity. |
Author(s): | Gad, Ulrik Pram. |
Date: | 2005. |
Publisher: | Copenhagen: Kobenhavens Universitet |
Language: | Danish. |
Abstract: | Examines Greenlandic debate on language as negotiation of political identity. Focuses on position of monolingual Danish-speaking Greenlanders, as Greenlandic identity discourse presents Greenlandic language as issue of distinction, delimiting Greenlanders from Danes. Concludes that place of Danish-speaking Greenlanders in Greenlandic identity discourse is ambiguous and disputed - qualities which might produce scenario in which Greenland, in the process of linguistic "Greenlandization" loses some resources needed by self-governing welfare state. |
