Abstract: Database of African penguin resightings shows that 14% of banded birds subsequently recorded breeding settled to breed at non-natal colonies. Discusses effect on emigration and immigration of changes in distribution and availability of prey, and on link between Apollo Sea oil spill of 1994 and attempted breeding at more than one colony.
