Abstract: | Analyses long history of dispute between Argentina and Britain over sovereignty of Falkland Islands, and describes difficulties faced by successive British governments in attempting to reconcile opposed interests of Argentines and islanders while maintaining viability of islands. Presents detailed account of Constantino Davidov's scrap metal company Georgias del Sur S.A. and attempt via Project Alpha to assert Argentine sovereignty over South Georgia by subterfuge, and draws on government archives, classified documents and personal interviews to describe how this incident led to invasion of Falkland Islands in April 1982. |
