Record #173476:

Evidence of winter ascending air circulation throughout talus slopes and rock glaciers situated in the lower belt of alpine discontinuous permafrost (Swiss Alps) / Reynald Delaloye, Christophe Lambiel.

Title: Evidence of winter ascending air circulation throughout talus slopes and rock glaciers situated in the lower belt of alpine discontinuous permafrost (Swiss Alps) / Reynald Delaloye, Christophe Lambiel.
Author(s): Delaloye, Reynald.
Lambiel, Christophe.
Date: 2005.
In: Norsk Geografisk Tidsskrift. (2005.), Vol. 59(2) (2005)
Abstract: Reports observations on Lapires and Petit Mont-Rouge talus slopes and Alpage de Mille (inactive) rock glacier in belt of discontinuous permafrost in western Swiss Alps. Air and ground temperature measurements, resistivity mapping, etc., show evidence of chimney effect (winter ascending air circulation through coarse sediments cools ground in lower part of deposit and inhibits freezing in upper part). Effect's occurrence in debris accumulations at "usual" mountain permafrost elevations raises questions about impact on thermal regime and spatial distribution of discontinuous mountain permafrost. In special issue Permafrost geomporphological systems in a changing global climate, edited by Ole Humlun and Ketil Isaksen.
