Air and ground temperature measurements, resistivity mapping, etc., show evidence of chimney effect (winter ascending air circulation through coarse sediments cools ground in lower part of deposit and inhibits freezing in upper part). Effect's occurrence in debris accumulations at "usual" mountain permafrost elevations raises questions about impact on thermal regime and spatial distribution of discontinuous mountain permafrost.
