Abstract: Examines pattern of altitudinal permafrost limits in Southern Scandinavia, aiming to validate location of lowermost limit. Describes study area in Sølen and Elgåhogna mountains, and mapping of permafrost distribution using empirical-statistical models and logistic regression. Validates models with DC resistivity measurements. Finds permafrost probable down to 1100-1300 m a.s.l. Confirms regional east-west gradient. Elevation is main controlling factor, with potential solar radiation and surface wetness pattern significant in Sølen and Elgåhogna models, respectively. Generally positive mean annual temperatures contradict BTS and resistivity results. Together with observed air ventilation funnels through snow cover, they suggest thermal advection and strong thermal offsets in blockfields.
