In: Geografiska Annaler. Series A. Physical Geography. (2004.), Vol. 87A(2) (2004)
Abstract: Use 2-km resolution ice sheet model to investigate interaction between climate and extent and fluctuations of Patagonian ice sheet between 45° and 48° S during last glacial maximum (LGM) and subsequent deglaciation. Modelled ice thickness, lithospheric response and ice deformation and sliding interact freely. Describes experiments perturbing ice sheet from present day by relative changes in sea level and equilibrium line latitude to identify LGM configuration compatible with record. Describes optimum LGM ice sheet obtained and modelled deglaciation forced with re-scaled Vostok ice core record; slow 25% shrinkage to c. 14,500 a BP, rapid collapse over c. 800 years, stabilized margins during Antarctic Cold Reversal, shrinkage to present limits by 11 ka BP.
