The landforms and pattern of glaciation in the Strait of Magellan and Bahía Inútil, southernmost South America / M.J. Bentley, D.E. Sugden, N.R.J. Hulton, R.D. McCulloch.

Title: The landforms and pattern of glaciation in the Strait of Magellan and Bahía Inútil, southernmost South America / M.J. Bentley, D.E. Sugden, N.R.J. Hulton, R.D. McCulloch.

Date: 2004.
In: Geografiska Annaler. Series A. Physical Geography. (2004.), Vol. 87A(2) (2004)
Abstract: Reports geomorphological mapping of Strait of Magellan and Bahía Inútil. Aims to determine pattern and process of deglaciation during last glacial-interglacial transition, and to provide firm geomorphological basis for interpretation of radiocarbon, cosmogenic isotope and amino acid dates for timing of deglaciation. Location links Antarctic and southern mid-latitudes, lying in zone of southern westerlies, which are key element in regional climate change. Mapping allows clear weathering and geomorphological distinction between last glaciation and older landforms and sediments. Identifies former glacial limits within last glacial deposits, delineating using meltwater channels. Concludes four main readvances or stillstands marked Late Glacial/Holocene transition.
