In: Geografiska Annaler. Series A. Physical Geography. (2004.), Vol. 87A(2) (2004)
Abstract: Presents overview of evidence relating to glacier fluctuations in southernmost South America in 46°-55° S during last glacial-interglacial transition 27-10 ka BP (presented in separate papers in this special issue). Examines new data from, e.g., remapping of geomorphology of Strait of Magellan and Bahía Inútil, resampling and redating important ¹⁴C sites, cosmogenic dating on boulders of known relationship to specific landforms, and high-resolution modelling linking possible climate change to glacier fluctuations. Concludes cycles of glaciation and deglaciation in phase with those of northern hemisphere, but millennial-scale changes during last glacial-interglacial transition (e.g., advance coinciding with Antarctic Cold Reversal recognized in Antarctic ice cores) were out of phase.
