| Abstract: | Examines large-scale glacial, peri-glacial and fluvial landforms appearing in recent images from NASA and ESA Mars missions. Compares with features (e.g., glacial landforms, rock glaciers, permafrost and mega-floods) found in "polar desert" of Antarctica or associated with margins of Laurentide ice sheet in North America. Notes criteria for formation of rock glaciers and debris-covered glaciers on Earth not directly applicable to those on Mars. Suggests debris cover of glaciers on Mars possibly formed in similar manner to sublimation till cover found in Antarctica. |
