Abstract: | Eighth annual summary of snow patches surviving through UK summer into following winter. One snow patch survived, under Sphinx Ridge in Garb Choire Mor, Cairngorms. After mild winter, with more snow than in 2003, fewer patches than usual remained by July. Describes snow patch observations. Summarizes snowfalls in Scottish Highlands, including fresh snow in Cairngorms in June. First snow of new season fell on 13 September, with first lasting snow on 26/27 November. Hills at Glenshee ski centre had 1% snow cover in February. Glenshee Chairlift Company sold Glencoe ski area in early winter and became bankrupt in May. |
