| Abstract: | Investigates snow conditions at selected sites in Finland, focussing on variation in snow pack structure within and between the main biotypes of forest and open field. Presents theoretical background for snow distribution and snow cover structure and its winter evolution. Discusses snow pack structure modelling and describes SNOWPACK model and its validation in Finland. Investigates prediction of snow pack structure changes during next 100 years and model and climate scenario data. Briefly describes snow climatology in Finland, field measurements and methodology. Studies snow conditions using long-term statistics of snow depth and water equivalent and variation in snow pack structure, especially using field measurements in Santala, Lammi, Mekrijärvi, Oulanka and Kilpisjärvi. |
