Record #173439:

Spatial and temporal observations of seasonal thaw in the Northern Kolyma Lowland / D.G. Fyodorov-Davydov, and 8 others.

Title: Spatial and temporal observations of seasonal thaw in the Northern Kolyma Lowland / D.G. Fyodorov-Davydov, and 8 others.
Author(s): Fyodorov-Davydov, D. G.
Date: 2004.
In: Polar Geography. (2004.), Vol. 28(4) (2004)
Abstract: Discusses first results of regional-scale analysis of active layer in Kolyma Lowland. Carried out in 1996-2002, these reveal spatial and temporal regularities in seasonal thawing of tundra and northern taiga soils. Presents air temperature and precipitation data and field observations of seasonal thaw depths. Compares mean active-layer thickness (ALT) in different landscape types. Examines correlations between ALT and climatic parameters. Finds texture (mechanical composition) of soil parent material is main factor determining differences in ALT in zonal tundra landscapes. Summer thaw in sandy soils is 2-3 times deeper than in loamy soils.
