Снег и лавины района южного портала туннеля Анзоб в Таджикистане

Title: Снег и лавины района южного портала туннеля Анзоб в Таджикистане
Title, transliterated: Sneg i laviny raĭona i︠u︡zhnogo portala tunneli︠a︡ Anzob v Tadzhikistane / A.A. I︠A︡blokov.
Translated title: Snow and avalanches at the southern portal of the Anzob tunnel in Tajikistan.
Author(s): I︠A︡blokov, A. A.
Date: 2004.
Language: Russian.
In: Materialy Gli︠a︡t︠s︡iologicheskikh Issledovaniĭ. (2004.), Vol. 97 (2004)
Abstract: Characterises avalanche situation around southern portal of 5-km tunnel under construction through Guissar mountain range. Summarises monthly climate, snowfall, and snow avalanche statistics. Area experiences snowfalls up to 1 m in cold periods, with snow depth reaching 3-4 m by end of winter. In very snowy winters, depths up to 5 m cause many avalanches, up to several hundred thousand cubic metres in volume. Attributes increase in high mountain precipitation (snowfall in winter 2003 in Tajikistan exceeded norm by 50%) to global warming. Reports snowfalls already hamper tunnel construction and predicts increased avalanche activity. Expects cost and time for construction of tunnel and avalanche galleries to increase also.
