Abstract: Characterizes avalanche danger in Chechnya on basis of climatic factors and analysis of cartographic material of World Atlas of Snow and Ice Resources. Notes absence of direct avalanche observations in Chechnya. Contrasts geographical conditions in Chechnya with those in adjacent Central and East Caucasus, noting pronounced continentality of climate, low snowiness and short duration of snow cover have produce features of avalanche regime. Establishes dominant avalanche type and sites of possible avalanching due to heavy snowfall. Delimits regions according to three degrees of avalanche danger, with highest category representing more than 5 avalanches per valley kilometre with volumes averaging more then 10⁵ m³.
