In: Materialy Gli︠a︡t︠s︡iologicheskikh Issledovaniĭ. (2004.), Vol. 97 (2004)
Abstract: Constructs model to simulate different scenarios of air-hydrate formation process in ice sheet transition zone. Constrains and evaluates simulated hydrate size distributions and ensemble mean properties with experimental data from Vostok and Dome F ice cores. Summarizes clathrate physical properties, formation conditions, and inferred model parameters for different scenarios of crystal nucleation. Illustrates simulated evolution of hydrate ensembles under two different regimes: 1) each bubble transforms to one hydrate; 2) some fraction of smaller bubbles completely disappear due to diffusive outflow of their gas towards coexisting hydrates, while some small hydrate crystals nucleate outside in ice matrix. Concludes second scenario more realistic.
