"Рельефообусловленные" колебания характеристик снежной толщи в Антарктиде

Title: "Рельефообусловленные" колебания характеристик снежной толщи в Антарктиде
Title, transliterated: "Relʹefoobuslovlennye" kolebanii︠a︡ kharakteristik snezhnoĭ tolshchi v Antarktide / A.A. Ėkaĭkin, V.I︠A︡. Lipenkov.
Translated title: "Terrain-dependent" variations of snow pack parameters in Antarctica.
Author(s): Ėkaĭkin, A. A.
Lipenkov, V. I︠A︡.
Date: 2004.
Language: Russian.
In: Materialy Gli︠a︡t︠s︡iologicheskikh Issledovaniĭ. (2004.), Vol. 97 (2004)
Abstract: Divides Antarctic snow surface forms into: "micro-relief" (10⁻²-10¹m), "meso-dunes" (10¹-10²m), and "mega-dunes" (10⁻³-10⁴m). Reviews main features, noting all forms influence physical and chemical properties of snow cover. Reports three types of "meso-dunes" near Vostok Station, showing influence on snow accumulation rate and isotopic composition time-series (signals typically have period 2-3, 4-5, or 20 years). Analyses isotope profiles from Vostok ice core to infer presence of meso-dunes in remote past. Advocates further study of formation and drift mechanism. Notes indirect evidence of mega-dune influence around Vostok with characteristic period around 1 kyr. Suggests method of separating climatic signal and relief-related noise in time-series of firn thickness parameters to aid Antarctic ice core interpretation.
