Abstract: Develops single-trajectory, single-source model for isotopic fractionation in high-latitude precipitation. Reviews and re-examines literature on Rayleigh-type models. Constructs complete fractionation model for predicting isotope content of snow in Central Antarctica at known temperature conditions and fixed vapour-source characteristics. Principal improvements are: moisture-circulation ratio controlling vapour flux from ocean surface in water-vapour source area; water-vapour supersaturation ratio over ice controlling kinematic fractionation effects; and multi-trajectory scheme of simulations of isotope depletion in precipitation. Presents theoretical description, computational implementation, comparison between simulated and observed deuterium excess in recent Antarctic snow, and sensitivity analysis.
